District Volunteers

More than 4,000 people volunteer in District 622 schools each year!

People volunteer to support their children, to be involved in the school and to improve the education programs of their schools.

The reasons non-parent community members volunteer are as diverse as the volunteers themselves. 

How Are Volunteers Helping?

• 1,926 volunteers worked to support K-12 education through non-academic support services such as athletic booster clubs, fund raising activities, lunchroom or playground assistance and participation in parent and education organizations.

• 21% of 622 volunteers do not work in a K-12 building. Almost all of these volunteers do not have children in a district school. The majority of non-school volunteers work with senior citizens through the Community Education program or Meals on Wheels.

• 47% of the volunteers assisting in K-12 schools work directly with students in academic support and enrichment opportunities.

Summary of Volunteering in District 622

• The number of people who volunteer in the district has stayed stable over the past 5 years.
• 12% of the adults volunteering in K-12 classrooms do not have a school aged child.
• Non-parent corporate volunteers make up 8% of the volunteers in District 622.
• 53% of teachers who have a volunteer in their classroom believe that their student's involvement with that volunteer has had a positive impact on academic achievement.
• The majority of volunteers and teachers who work with volunteers are very satisfied with their experience and the overall 622 Volunteer program.
